Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the service 'Claim for loss of notice' at https://notice.redundancy-payments.service.gov.uk/claims/personal-details.

This website is run by the Insolvency Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using screen reader software
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

We also try to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

There are many options for you to customise your web browser and device that could help you to navigate this and other websites more easily. If you have a disability, AbilityNet has helpful advice on how to make your device easier to use.

How accessible this website is

Parts of this website are known to have barriers. For example:

  • Some content requires scrolling in both directions on smaller screens or when zoomed in. This might cause a user to miss information or functionality that is presented off screen.
  • Some content has insufficient contrast when focussed. This might make it harder for users to see where the current focus is located or what the state of an element is. Elements might also be harder to distinguish on the page.
  • Some heading structures have gaps in the levels. This might give screen reader users the idea that content is missing or being skipped over when using the site.
  • Some additional information for form field requirements that is visibly presented, isn't automatically relayed to screen reader users. This might cause fields to be filled in incorrectly causing preventable errors.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with WCAG2.1 AA

  • Some pages have missing heading structures. This means screen reader users might assume information is missing or being skipped over. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some additional helper text for fields isn't read automatically to screen readers. This increases the chance that fields are completed with errors. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some content functionality requires scrolling in both horizontal and vertical directions to operate on smaller screens or when zoomed in. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow)
  • Some elements in their focused state don't meet the required 3:1 colour contrast level, making them harder to distinguish when focused. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.11 (Non-text contrast)
  • Not all HTML conforms W3C specification, including structural code that might affect how assistive technologies handle the page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing).

What we're doing to improve accessibility

The issues are currently being worked on, and a new version of the site is expected in 2022.
